BVIF: The Foundation

The Bonny Vainö Idhenga Foundation (BVIF) is a nonprofit organization that helps build bridges to foster cultural understanding and community development. It is dedicated to making Namibia a better place in which to live.

Background

BVIF was founded based on the passionate belief and desire to make Namibia a better place in which to live and to contribute to the alleviation of poverty in the country.

The main activities of BVIF are as follows:

  • The donation and distribution of charitable goods or aid to the needy in Namibia;

  • The coordination of specific skills of professionals or institutions to provide services to the needy in Namibia, and;

  • The Hand-in-Hand for Africa & Namibia literature Award.

Hand in Hand For Africa e.V. (HiHFA) is the main Patron/Donor to BVIF (by quantity of donations); however, the Board of Trustees is also seeking other donors and sources of income to support ongoing programs.

Our Vision

We envision a Namibia where all people hold the power to create opportunity for themselves and their communities, even those that are nomadic and live in the most remote areas.

Our Mission

Transforming communities by inspiring people in Namibia to open their minds to literature and to the support of the less privileged.

We aim to accomplish this by doing the following:

  1. Empowering needy Namibians through the generous assistance of fellow Namibians and gracious donors received from around the world.

  2. Through the Award, HiHFA & BVIF aim to encourage and motivate more Namibians to think critically and showcase their creative potential. It will provide quality fictional/non-fictional literary works, which are published in English and the various indigenous Namibian languages.

  3. Cultivating a nation that embraces literature and is able to process and promote new ideas, as well as, contribute to the global body of learning.

  4. Promoting a sense of respect, admiration and enjoyment towards literature and research amongst Namibians.

  5. Assisting more authors in achieving financial success and by so doing, we will breath life into the dreams of our nation; Namibians will gain the ability to achieve their dreams by writing literature.
